How do messages work?

Chat is available only to users aged 18 or over and brings together private conversations between people who agreed to talk. Eligible users can chat with other members. Messaging independent professionals is exclusive to Premium subscribers. You can reply to specific messages, see who is online (if that option is on) and report messages that break the rules. You cannot message deactivated or deleted accounts.

How do I control who can message me?

Messages from people you have not talked to yet arrive as conversation requests, which you can approve or decline. Under Conversation permissions, choose who can send requests: everyone, accounts older than 30 days, accounts with a minimum amount of empathy, or nobody. The allow list keeps people who can reach you at any time. You can also turn off your online status.

How do I pin, mute, hide or delete conversations?

Press and hold a conversation to see the actions: pin (up to 3 conversations at a time), mute notifications, hide or delete. A hidden conversation reappears when someone sends a new message. Deleting removes the conversation permanently for you.
